Dr. Judith C. Stutts, PhD is a licensed professional counselor located in Asheboro, North Carolina who specializes in pet bereavement counseling. She is a member of the American Counseling Association, and the American Association of the Human-Animal Bond Veterinarians. She was invited to present her doctoral research findings on pet loss and depression at the Delta Society National Conference in New York City in 1994, and the 7th International Conference on Human-Animal Interactions in Geneva, Switzerland in 1995. As a guest lecturer at colleges, universities, veterinary medical associations, zoos, and kennel clubs, she teaches about grief stages, pet bereavement issues, human-animal relationship concerns, and communication techniques. Judith is a consultant to veterinary staff members and pet owners concerning pet illness, and death.
Judith has been featured in several newspaper articles and brochures, and her article, "Bereavement and the Human-Animal Bond" was published in the Veterinary Technician journal, June 1996. Her article on "Veterinarians and Their Human Clients" was published in the Journal of The American Veterinary Medical Association, 15 June 1997. Dr. Stutts has also been a featured guest on radio, and the singular invited guest for a half-hour television special on the South Carolina Educational Television Network.
From 1997 to 2001, Judith was appointed Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Companion Animal and Special Species Medicine at the College of Veterinary Medicine at the North Carolina State University. She has pioneered a project concept to teach grief and loss issues in ten selected veterinary schools in the United States, and Waltham awarded her a lecture series contract.
